DR. JAMES SWANSON
Dr. James (Jim) Swanson graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine, Michigan State University in 1977 and was in private practice in Battle Creek, MI for 2 years. He was accepted into a residency position in the Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Texas A&M University in 1979 where he completed a dual residence in Ophthalmology and Small Animal Internal Medicine. Dr. Swanson then occupied a junior faculty position at Texas A&M University and completed the requirements for board certification in the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO). Upon leaving Texas A&M, Dr. Swanson was an assistant professor at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Wisconsin/Madison until 1986 when he returned to Texas to join Dr. Kohle Herrmann at Gulf Coast Animal Eye Clinic .
Dr. Swanson is published in veterinary journals and books, and has had numerous positions within the ACVO including member and chair of the ACVO Examination Committee, ACVO Regent, Vice President, President-Elect, President, ACVO Ethics Committee and member and Chair of the ACVO Governance Committee as well as a member of the ACVO Vision for Animals Foundation.
In his spare time Dr. Swanson is active in his church, plays jazz guitar and chases golf balls.
